Assemblywoman Galef Hosts New York State Senator David Carlucci on Her “Speak Out” Television Show

(May 22, 2013) Assemblywoman Sandy Galef is joined by Senator David Carlucci of the 38th New York State Senate District, on her latest episode of “Speak Out with Sandy Galef.”

Carlucci, who is the former clerk of the Town of Clarkstown, discusses how his past as a clerk impacts his current leadership style through ways such as his continuous use of a mobile office. Carlucci explains how he uses his mobile office to travel around to various places, especially supermarkets, so his constituents who normally don’t have the time to mail or call him can still have a chance to talk to him about their issues.

The Senator’s mobile office has given him some ideas for legislation that include bills that he and Galef have worked on together. Along with the mobile office, Carlucci has recently opened up another office in Ossining so, as he puts it, “nobody has to cross a bridge to see their state senator.”

Carlucci, however still has to cross the Tappan Zee Bridge in order to traverse his district so he sees firsthand the issues associated with the bridge replacement project. The Senator discusses what he has learned through meetings with transportation task forces and what he feels must be done with the bridge. Carlucci also discusses with Galef some of his proposed legislation that he feels will benefit the local communities as well as the state as a whole along with which legislation he feels has worked and which has not worked.

“I am very glad that Senator Carlucci was able to join me on my show. It is important for people to be able to get to know their elected officials,” said Assemblywoman Galef. “I hope that my constituents will watch this show to gain a better insight into state government, Senator Carlucci’s priorities, current issues he is working on, and how we will continue to work together going forward.”

Assemblywoman Galef Highlights Efforts to Improve Transportation in

Putnam County on her “Dear Sandy” TV Show

(May 10, 2013) The latest installment of Assemblywoman Sandy Galef’s television program “Dear Sandy” highlights the efforts being made by various Putnam County government organizations to improve transportation within the county. Galef is joined by Anthony Ruggiero, Commissioner of Putnam County Department of Planning, Development and Public Transportation and Vincent Tamagna, Chairman of the Putnam County Transportation Task Force.

Part of Galef’s district is located in Putnam County, a county with a little under 100,000 people. Currently there are obstacles to public transportation, and there is no efficient, traditional bus system that you might find in other counties. Only about one-third of the county is served by any sort of public transportation. Tamagna discusses the role of the newly formed task force he leads and some of the suggestions that they plan on making to the County administration. Ruggiero discusses the current transportation system and the complications involved in making any changes. Both Ruggiero and Tamagna are working with various organizations to test the current transportation, riding the buses and trains to see what is working and what is not.

“I’m sure that my constituents will be as interested as I was to learn about the current state of Putnam County’s transportation system, and I look forward to seeing what the future has in store for transportation changes.” said Galef.

Assemblywoman Galef Highlights Efforts to Ensure a Successful Environmental and Economic Future for Hudson River Towns on Her “Dear Sandy” TV Show

Assemblywoman Galef Highlights Efforts to Ensure a Successful Environmental and Economic Future for Hudson River Towns on Her “Dear Sandy” TV Show

(April 17, 2013) The latest installment of Assemblywoman Sandy Galef’s television program “Dear Sandy” highlights the efforts made by Scenic Hudson and Historic Hudson River Town’s to revitalize and improve towns along the Hudson River. Galef is joined by Andy Bicking, Director of Public Policy for Scenic Hudson and Jerry Faiella, Executive Director of Historic Hudson River Towns. Bicking and Faiella discuss with Galef ways to develop and improve the waterfront in an environmentally friendly way.

Much of Galef’s district is located along the Hudson, and her guests represent two groups who are leading activities to revitalize the economy and create environmental improvements in these areas. Tourism is a growing industry in the mid-Hudson region and working to improve local parks would aid in the success of the tourism industry. Two projects along the Hudson were specifically mentioned, the Hudson Fjord Hike/Bike Trail and the Historic Sing Sing Museum. Both will provide new tourism opportunities along the Hudson for their communities. In addition, Bicking and Faiella discuss steps that should be taken to protect people and property along the river from future natural disasters, following a few years of particularly strong storms in the Hudson River Valley.

“I am pleased that Andy and Jerry joined me on my television show to discuss issues that are so important to many of the people I represent. The Hudson River is a major asset to my Assembly District and more must be done to take advantage of all it has to offer and preserve it for the future. I look forward to continue working with these two organizations on ideas we discussed on my show,” said Galef.
