MARY CAPOCCIA NAMED EXECUTIVE SECRETARY TO
YORKTOWN SUPERVISOR-ELECT MICHAEL GRACE

Mary Capoccia has been tapped by Town of Yorktown Supervisor-elect Michael Grace to serve as his Executive Secretary when he takes office Jan. 1, 2012.

“I’ve known Mary long enough and well enough to have total confidence and trust in her administrative skills,” said Mr. Grace, “plus she brings to Town Hall an enthusiastic attitude that is positively professional and personable. She is the ideal choice to help me stay focused on the job at hand. We have a lot of hard, productive work ahead of us to properly nurture Yorktown with participatory government and ‘smart growth,’ to borrow a phrase from one of our newest citizen groups.”

A 17-year resident of Yorktown, Ms. Capoccia for the past decade has worked as the Legal Secretary in the law offices of Albert A. Capellini, a past supervisor of Yorktown whose practice represents several developers in the region, as well as various other clients involved in transactions with the town. During that period, she also was a broker for Hanover Hudson Realty.

Prior to her paralegal work, Ms. Capoccia for 12 years was Executive Secretary to a division president at fabled publishing conglomerate McGraw-Hill in Manhattan.

“It’s very bittersweet to leave Al because we work as a family,” said Ms. Capoccia of her transition to Town Hall on Underhill Avenue from the Capellini offices around the corner on Front Street. “At the same time, I’m very excited to be starting with Mike, who I see not only making changes but bringing Yorktown back to greatness. He’s very approachable. You can talk to him about anything.”

Her husband Rocco works for a financial services firm, the same profession in which her eldest son Nicholas, 23, a graduate of Sacred Heart College, is currently serving an internship. Twenty year-old Christopher is a student at SUNY Albany. Both sons worked as Yorktown volunteer firefighters, with Nick a charter member of Yorktown Heights Engine Co. No. 1’s Junior Corps.

“This town needs somebody just like Michael Grace,” says his incoming Executive Secretary. “When you sit in one of his chairs, you don’t want to leave his office. That’s the feeling he gives everybody.”

Remarking on the anticipated pressure of working for a town supervisor who is poised to tackle a far-reaching agenda of critical matters, Mary Capoccia noted, “I don’t think it’s any more stressful than what I do. The Town Hall staff in place is highly competent. Michael has been meeting with all the department heads since he won election. I know they will be very helpful.”
